Russian operator Yota (Scartel) has begun the testing of an LTE network in Novosibirsk in Siberia. The company currently has 63 base stations in Russia’s third largest city, although the number is set to increase to 150 base stations by March 2012, with equipment supplied by Huawei. Commercially available modems will be introduced on 15 January. Yota says it is working on integrating the network with other operators that could offer services over its LTE network. Russian mobile operator MegaFon has already completed technical integration.
