NSN wins KDDI deal to implement CSFB technology overlay

16 Dec 2011

Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has been selected to supply an upgrade for Japanese mobile operator KDDI Corp, that will enable two types of radio communications technology to work side by side in Japan. Under the plan NSN will supply and implement circuit switched fallback (CSFB) technology to enable code division multiple access (CDMA) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) technologies to work together in KDDI’s network in the country. Dow Jones Newswires notes that the deployment will allow the operator to use its existing CDMA network to continue delivering high-quality voice services while maximising the efficiency of its LTE network – currently under deployment. NSN supplied the cellco’s CDMA network and is currently deploying LTE for KDDI, which aims to go live with 4G by the end of 2012.
