Licence extension awarded to Indochina Telecom

5 Dec 2011

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has agreed to extend the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) licence of Indochina Telecom, after the company failed to launch services by an August 2011 deadline. The Saigon Times cites Pham Hong Hai, the head of the ministry’s Telecommunications Department, as saying that Indochina Telecom has promised to launch services in the next few months. Indochina Telecom was awarded its MVNO licence in August 2009 and was given two years to launch services using the infrastructure and frequencies of one of Vietnam’s seven network operators. Towards the end of the year it trialled services over the network of military-run operator Viettel.
