ACE submarine cable lands in Abidjan

21 Nov 2011

The USD700 million Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) submarine cable has landed in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, two weeks after docking in Monrovia, Liberia. According to TechCentral, the deployment of the high-capacity, 5.12Tbps cable linking France and South Africa is making ‘good progress’, and is expected to be ready for commercial service in the second half of 2012. To date Cote d’Ivoire is only served by one international submarine cable, South Atlantic 3/West Africa Submarine Cable (SAT-3/WASC), which launched in 2002. However, the West Africa Cable System (WACS) is also set to land in Abidjan in 2012.
