PLDT to deploy Cisco routers as core component of its IP NGN

16 Nov 2011

The Philippines’ leading telco by subscribers and revenues, Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT), has picked Cisco to supply it with router equipment as it looks to develop its IP-based next generation network (NGN) platform. The telco says the implementation of the vendor’s router technologies will support current and future service requirements on both its fixed and mobile networks, and will meet consumer demand for high bandwidth, data-hungry services. Commenting on the deployment, Napoleon Nazareno, president and CEO of PLDT, said: ‘PLDT is now equipped for the growth of IP-connected devices used in consumer, business, mobile and machine-to-machine environments using the Cisco CRS-3 and ASR 9000 series core routing systems. From internet protocol television to tele-presence, PLDT will be able to address the anticipated growth in internet traffic brought about by the surge of internet-based video services.’
