Hutchison to launch LTE in Vienna on 18 November

16 Nov 2011

Hutchison 3G Austria (H3G) has confirmed that it will launch its long-awaited Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Vienna on 18 November. The decision to go live will bring the cellco in line with rivals T-Mobile and A1 Telekom Austria, both of whom inaugurated their respective 4G networks in October 2010, within days of the 2.6GHz spectrum auction closing. Speaking to WirtschaftsBlatt on the sidelines at the Mobile Asia Congress conference in Hong Kong, H3G CEO Jan Trionow indicated that the service will be capable of providing maximum theoretical download speeds of 100Mbps, with unlimited data usage modems priced at EUR49 (USD66.5) per month. Going forward, Trionow expects the first LTE-enabled smartphone to be made available in January 2012.
