AR Telecom abandons residential sector

16 Nov 2011

Lisbon-based fixed line operator AR Telecom has confirmed that it intends to exit the residential sector by the end of the year, in order to focus on the business market, where it expects to see growth of around 20% per year. It is believed that the company intends to capitalise on the strong growth achieved in the business and public sectors in recent years, by concentrating all of its future investments in that direction. In January 2004 Spanish telco Jazztel sold its wholly owned Portuguese subsidiary Jazztel Portugal to Jadinca, the telecoms arm of industrial holding company SGC, for EUR10 million (USD13.6 million). According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at the end of 2010 AR Telecom had a 0.7% share of direct access customers, with an estimated 24,822 wirelines in service, up slightly from 23,560 one year earlier.
