Telenor Montenegro launches LTE trial

10 Nov 2011

Norwegian-owned cellco Telenor Montenegro has announced that it has begun conducting technical trials on the Balkan state’s first Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, in 2009 the cellco tasked Chinese vendor ZTE with modernising and expanding its network, including laying the foundations for a 4G rollout. Telenor Montengro is aiming for a 2012 commercial launch for the network. Commenting on the trials, the company’s chief technical officer Atiq Ahmad said: ‘There are always challenges when bringing new technology to the market, though I am excited with the potential and possibilities that LTE provides.’
