In the third quarter of 2011, Thailand’s second largest cellco DTAC added 7,455 post-paid and 128,600 pre-paid mobile users to give it a total subscriber base of 22,864,909 (2,359,221 post-paid and 20,505,688 pre-paid). However, the 136,055 net new users total in July-September 2011 was significantly less than the 296,000 added in Q3 2010, although the decline was solely in pre-paid growth; post-paid additions in 3Q11 were up by 1,000 year-on-year. DTAC launched a 3G 850MHz network in August, although it has yet to expand coverage beyond Bangkok. Seasonal factors in Thailand make the third quarter typically the slowest quarter of the year in terms of mobile customer additions.
DTAC’s total revenues reached THB19.6 billion (USD624 million) in 3Q11, up from THB18.4 billion a year earlier. Profit before finance costs and tax was THB4.5 billion, compared to THB4.4 billion in 3Q10, and quarterly net income attributable to equity holders of the company rose slightly year-on-year from THB3.06 billion to THB3.07 billion.
