Gulf Bridge awards 100G contract to Xtera

Middle Eastern high speed cable operator Gulf Bridge International (GBI) has awarded a multi-year turnkey contract to network infrastructure provider Xtera Communications to act as sole supplier of 100Gbps technology for upgrading terrestrial and undersea fibre-optic routes in Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa. The financial value of the deal was not disclosed, but in its press release, GBI said that its investments are focused on meeting the growing wholesale capacity demands of the Middle East by improving its carrier neutral regional network’s connectivity and geographical reach to the rest of the world. ‘We are installing one of the most advanced networks to connect Europe, the Middle East and Asia,’ announced Samih Kawar, chief technology officer at GBI.
