Bright lights, Cable City; Rostelecom extends IPTV service to Krasnoyarsk

13 Oct 2011

Krasnoyarsk-based ISP Cable City has announced that it has begun trialling Rostelecom’s ‘Twist’-branded IPTV service in 73 multi-residence buildings in the city, giving subscribers access to 74 TV channels. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in July 2011 Rostelecom signed a deal with SmartLabs for the latter to develop a unified platform for the telco’s IPTV service. Rostelecom – which now comprises Russia’s seven mega-regional telcos which previously were part of Svyazinvest – currently operates three different IPTV services with around 400,000 subscribers in total. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Pay-TV service, IPTV accounted for just 2.4% of pay-TV subscribers in Russia at the end of 2010, up from 1.6% twelve months previously.
