Fixed line portability now available

Bahrain’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced the availability of fixed number portability (FNP), following the introduction of mobile number portability (MNP) in July this year. The watchdog’s director general, Mohamed Hamad Bubashait, said FNP allows users to change their operators while retaining their phone numbers in a process taking no more than six working days to complete. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that the regulator also decided that services provided over fixed wireless access (including fixed WiMAX networks), whether using fixed or non-geographic numbers, are included within FNP, whilst services provided over mobile WiMAX networks (which it permitted from November 2010) should be included under MNP.
