First-quarter 4G auction under consideration

6 Oct 2011

The Telecommunications Office of the Slovak Republic (TU SR) is considering launching a licence auction for 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in the ‘digital dividend’ 700MHz-800MHz band vacated by analogue TV broadcasting alongside 2600MHz frequencies in the first quarter of next year. The regulator revealed that it is currently negotiating with the Ministry of Transport and Finance for a budget increase necessary to implement the electronic auction. The TU SR remains in the process of setting 4G licence conditions including service coverage stipulations aimed at achieving a complete nationwide broadband footprint. The watchdog is also considering reserving additional 900MHz/1800MHz spectrum for a new entrant which does not already possess frequencies in those ranges, to raise competition.
