Ghana’s telecoms regulator the National Communications Authority (NCA) yesterday updated the market on the progress of mobile number portability (MNP) in the country, reporting that a total of 105,678 subscribers had successfully ported their number by 30 September – twelve weeks after the scheme launched. The NCA adds that of the 41,021 porting requests carried out in September, 5% were completed in under 15 minutes, 48% within 15 minutes to one hour, 30% in one to four hours, 16% in four to 24 hours, and 1% in more than 24 hours. In a statement, the NCA said: ‘The average time to complete a port in September was three hours, seven minutes, a significant reduction from August’s four hours, 16 minute average.’

Further, the watchdog noted that following the expiration of their mandatory 30-day waiting period, a total of 2,477 customers chose to port back to their previous network service provider, while 303 subscribers moved on to a third network.
