France’s greater Pars region – Ile-de-France – intends to invest EUR15 million (USD19.8 million) per annum in its fibre-optic rollout plan, as well as EUR26 million a year in digital projects, starting from 2012. Telecompaper cites unnamed local press reports as saying that under the remit of the region’s strategy for economic development and innovation, a number of existing projects will be renewed and other new ones added, including the fibre rollout plan. The announcement marks a significant increase on the EUR5.5 million spent on average in the period 2004 to 2011. It is understood the greater Paris region is looking to create a special support system for teleworkers, and looking to change the name of the regional IT agency, Agence Regionale du Numerique.
