Spanish Telecoms giant Telefonica has incorporated Switzerland’s Sunrise into its Telefonica Partners Program. Under the terms of the agreement, the two will collaborate on the procurement of network equipment, the development of devices and the delivery of services to multinational companies. Sunrise hopes that the telcos’ combined efforts will give it an advantage over its local competitors. Telefonica Partners are able to utilise the Madrid-based behemoth’s scale to their benefit, whilst Telefonica extends its reach and presence indirectly.
Commenting on the agreement, Sunrise CEO Oliver Steil said ‘maintaining our high pace of technological improvement is one reason for this collaboration. As revenue from voice traffic declines and demand for data delivery at home and on mobile devices jumps, large investments are planned to complete infrastructure such as high speed mobile phone networks or fibre optic technology. This deal gets many benefits for both companies whilst ensuring quality for our customers.’
