Colombian state-owned telco Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota (ETB) has announced plans to roll out wireless services in partnership with mobile network operator Colombia Movil (Tigo), controlled by Luxembourg-based Millicom International Cellular (MIC). ETB’s mobile offering, which will target medium and low income customers, is expecting to launch in Bogota in November this year. The telco currently bundles its local and long-distance telephony, TV and broadband services, and is likely to include its mobile option in future packages. ETB’s service will be delivered via a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) deal with Tigo, in which the municipally-run telco owns a 25% stake (with MIC holding 50%-plus-one-share).
