Sercomtel looks to December launch of DTH service

23 Sep 2011

Regional telecoms services provider Sercomtel is looking to launch a satellite TV direct-to-home (DTH) service in Brazil in December, initially serving around 300,000 customers. At launch, the telco’s fledgling service will be offered in the Brazilian cities of Londrina and Tamarana, before being rolled out to 29 cities in Parana state. Local press quote Sercomtel president Roberto Coutinho as saying the new service will include pay-TV channels, HD channels, as well as local content, in partnership with free-to-air broadcasters operating in the region. Further, Coutinho says the advent of DTH services means it will look to migrate its entire MMDS Pay-TV operation in Maringa to satellite.
