Argentinean telco Wiltel is expected to introduce wireless voice services next month in Santa Fe via a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement, according to BNamericas. Citing Hernan Manfredi, Wiltel’s commercial director, the report claims that at launch service will be available in the cities of Rosario, Santa Fe, Villa Gobernador Galvez, San Carlos and Esperanza, as well as a number of other locations. Wiltel has said that it expects to sign up a ‘significant’ number of users in Rosaria, the province’s main city. The service, which will be offered under the ‘Nuestro’ banner, is provided by telecoms cooperative Fecosur via an agreement with Argentina’s third largest cellco by subscribers, Telecom Personal.
As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Fecosur signed a mobile reseller agreement with Telecom Personal in May 2009. Pilot tests were launched the following September in several municipalities, including Colonia Caroya, Rio Tercero, Villa Gesell, San Bernardo, Mar del Plata, Pergmanino, San Bernardo, Balcarce and Dolores, with commercial services introduced in July 2010 under the ‘Nuestro’ banner, initially in the towns of Villa Gesell in Buenos Aires province and San Martin de los Andes (Neuquen province). Fecosur has previously said it expects to end 2011 with agreements in place with 150 cooperatives and aims to sign up 100,000 subscribers to the MVNO offering within the first two years of operation, and to reach two million users within four years.
