Hungary is set to get a new mobile service provider with the news that retail giant Tesco has inked an agreement with Vodafone Hungary to offer a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service over the latter’s network. Tesco Mobile Hungary will become the fourth mobile service in the country. A 50:50 joint venture, the new MVNO will sell its own-brand tariff plans through its stores and online. Portfolio.hu quotes Gerry Gray, CEO of Tesco Hungary as saying: ‘We are constantly looking for new opportunities to offer Hungarian customers value and innovation, and we believe that Tesco Mobile will offer both. In Vodafone we have a partner with the know-how and potential to make Tesco Mobile as successful in Hungary as it is in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Slovakia.’
