Antel selects ZTE for national GPON FTTx network

Chinese technology provider ZTE Corporation has been selected by Uruguayan telco Administracion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Antel) to roll out a fibre-optic Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) designed to serve 300,000 broadband subscribers across the country with access speeds of up to 100Mbps. The GPON network will support broadband access via fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) as well as enterprise networks and high speed backhaul. ZTE will provide a next-generation, convergent full-service optical access platform, the ZXA10 C300, upgradable to NG PON and WDM PON technologies. Antel operates fixed broadband services via subsidiary AntelData.
