Sterlite Technologies bags broadband rollout contract from BSNL

State-owned Indian telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has reportedly handed local transmission solutions provider Sterlite Technologies a INR1.14 billion (USD23.4 million) contract for the construction of a broadband network across the operator’s regions of operation. According to India’s Economic Times, under the terms of the deal Sterlite will install and commission the new infrastructure by the end of the 2012/13 financial year, and will subsequently manage the network for seven years thereafter. It is understood that the network, once completed, will have capacity for around 1.6 million broadband connections.
