Cellcos must block stolen handsets

Venezuelan cellular network operators have three months to set up systems to block usage of mobile handsets reported stolen or missing, following an order from telecoms regulator Comision Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Conatel). Furthermore, the three cellcos – Movilnet, Movistar Venezuela and Digitel – must establish a shared database of blocked IMEI codes to prevent stolen handsets – more than 100,000 of which are reported monthly – from being used on a rival network.
