Polish cellcos Polkomtel and P4, which operate under the brand names Plus and Play respectively, have begun negotiating a network infrastructure sharing agreement. The two companies would thereby reduce the cost of managing, maintaining and upgrading their networks.
Orange Poland and Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa completed a similar arrangement earlier this year, launching a joint venture dubbed ‘NetWorkS’. The equally-shared company was created in July, and last week it announced that it would be rolling out DC-HSPA by May 2012.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Polkomtel and Plus are the second and fourth largest operators by subscribers in the country, serving a combined 19.53 million customers, or 40.7% of the wireless market in June 2011.
