Republic’s telecoms industry generates EUR961m in revenues in Q2

Irish telecoms regulator ComReg has published its latest quarterly report on the domestic market which shows that total electronic communications revenues topped EUR961 million (USD1.3 billion) for the three months to 30 June 2011, up 1.3% on the previous quarter. The watchdog reports that total voice traffic (fixed and mobile) declined by 0.7% to a little over 4.45 billion voice minutes in 2Q11, as broadband subscriptions rose by a net 3,859 to 1.66 million. As at 30 June the total number of mobile subscriptions in the Republic, including mobile broadband, stood at 5.38 million, down marginally from 5.41 million three months earlier. ComReg noted that in the April-June period a total of 123,646 people ported their mobile number – the highest single quarterly figure reported since mobile number portability was introduced in 2003.
