Third mobile operator for Trinidad

15 Sep 2011

Trinidad and Tobago’s prime minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has announced that the government will be inviting proposals for a third wireless operator before the end of the year, saying that the move was an extension of the government’s policy of encouraging competition. The prime minister hopes that the ICT sector will be a vehicle for social and economic growth. In accordance with these aims, the government will be reviewing the current legislative framework, with an eye to amend it if it is deemed necessary. Trinidad and Tobago is currently served by Jamaica-backed Digicel and BMobile, the wireless arm of incumbent Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT).
