Nepal Telecom (NT) has responded to rival Ncell’s offer to make good on a commitment to pay royalties totalling NPR20 billion (USD269.3 million) by 2017, but only if rivals such as NT pay their licence renewal fees too, by declining to do so. In response to questions from lawmakers of a government Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sub-committee, NT managing director Vishwanath Goel said the amount it was being asked to pay every five years was too high. Meanwhile, rural telecoms operator Nepal Satellite Telecom (NST) has also said it is not in a position to clear its outstanding fees, amid losses of NPR30 million per month.
