Fibre-optic network now nationwide

13 Sep 2011

Angola Telecom’s fibre-optic backbone network now spans 10,000km, covering the capital city, Luanda, all provinces of the country and various municipalities, the executive director of the state-backed incumbent’s technical department, Alvaro Brito Alves, told the press at the end of a meeting with the secretary of state for science and technology, Joao Sebastiao Teta. The director said that the fibre-optic coverage was now ‘national’. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that an earlier phase of the network rollout was completed in 2010, when the NGN backbone reached all 18 provinces and around 7,000km.
