AM conducts Brazilian LTE trial, wavering on 2.5GHz

13 Sep 2011

Mexico-based America Movil (AM) says it has conducted trials of 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in Brazil, although it is not yet decided on whether it will participate in the forthcoming auction of 2.5GHz frequencies – slated for 2012. AM chief executive officer Daniel Hajj says that while its local unit Telecom Americas (Claro) will summon equipment vendors to help it trial LTE in parts of the country later this year, the 2.5GHz band is not considered a preferred type of frequency. Nevertheless, Hajj confirmed that 4G trials will be carried out in a number of as yet unconfirmed Brazilian cities.
