Taiwanese operator Chunghwa Telecom has selected Swedish equipment vendor Ericsson to deploy and integrate a new IPTV platform that will allow it to deliver multi-screen, interactive multimedia services to its subscriber base. The telco counted 887,000 IPTV subscribers at end-June 2011. The new platform will reportedly replace Chunghwa’s existing IPTV system and address the operator’s concerns related to growing consumer content demand. The new functionality is expected to be available to subscribers by December this year. Ericsson has confirmed that it will be the prime integrator of the end-to-end solution, which encompasses digital rights management, video servers, content management solutions and the installation of set-top boxes.
