QS Communications (QSC) has announced it is rolling out a fibre-optic network pilot project in Berlin in partnership with Swedish vendor Ericsson, energy firm Vattenfall and housing association degewo. Under the EUR4 million (USD5.65 million) project, around 4,000 households in the Gropiusstadt area of the city will be able to access fibre-optic connections by summer 2012. The network is based on an open access platform, which will enable end-users to choose which operator provides their telecoms services.
