NBTC commissioners appointed

Thailand’s Senate has selected a final line-up of members for new regulator the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC), an essential step on the road to restarting the country’s stalled process of auctioning 2100MHz 3G mobile licences. The Bangkok Post reports that the eleven members will be appointed for six-year, non-renewable terms, with a chairperson and two deputies yet to be elected; the selections must still be approved by the prime minister and the king. The line-up of representatives from sectors including telecoms, law, consumer protection and TV has been criticised for lacking enough communications industry experience, with several holding military titles.
