ONE is not for sale

5 Sep 2011

Viktor Donevski, the head of public relations at Macedonian alternative fixed and mobile telecoms operator ONE, has said the telco is not for sale, amid media speculation that Turkish operator Turkcell is interested in purchasing the company. Local news service Dnevnik quotes Donevski as saying that ONE is pleased with the current ownership set-up, which has made the operator a competitive and ‘interesting’ player in the local market. ONE is wholly owned by Telekom Slovenije via SIOL BV, a Netherlands-registered holding company.

As reported in CommsUpdate, ONE reported ‘continuous growth’ in all areas of operation in the first six months of 2011. The group said it had 659,033 active subscribers at the end of June 2011, including around 510,960 mobile lines (+24% year-on-year). ONE also reported a 53% rise in subscriptions to its digital television service Boom TV, while fixed telephony and internet services ‘grew as well’, it said. The firm has not yet provided any concrete financial data but in a press release ONE said earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBIDTA) grew 24% compared to the same period of 2010. At the end of June ONE’s mobile network covered 99.9% of the population and 98.17% of the territory of the Republic of Macedonia.
