Vodafone TV subs top 40,000

1 Sep 2011

Vodafone Germany has signed up a total of 40,000 subscribers to its hybrid television offering Vodafone TV since the service commercially launched in February 2011, RapidTVNews reports, citing an interview with Vodafone’s Germany’s CEO Friedrich Joussen in local newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung. Joussen revealed that the company is about to launch a major marketing campaign to promote the service, which comprises a hybrid technology of cable, satellite and IPTV. ‘The time is well-suited as [satellite service provider] Astra will cease analogue satellite broadcasts in April 2012. 3.5 million customers will then have to choose a different television provider,’ Joussen said. The executive added that Vodafone TV’s hybrid platform can offer more attractive pricing than IPTV providers and said the service can be deployed to all households nationwide because it does not depend on large bandwidths.
