SmarTone’s revenues up 68%

Hong Kong cellco SmarTone’s annual total revenues increased by 68% to HKD6.63 billion (USD851 million), driving EBITDA up 80% to HKD2.13 billion in the fiscal year ended June 2011. Net profit, at HKD754 million, was 2.5 times the previous year’s bottom line. Underlying service revenue grew by 33% in the twelve-month period and data revenue increased by 81%, representing 49% of service revenue, driven by increasing customer adoption of data applications on smartphones, mobile broadband including usage of tablet computers, and also SmarTone’s fixed-wireless broadband packages. Total customer numbers increased by 17% year-on-year to 1.54 million at end-June, of which 71% were post-paid subscribers, and blended ARPU rose by 15% to HKD249. The operator also announced that its HSPA+ network has now been 100% upgraded to 42Mbps maximum theoretical speed via the implementation of a dual-carrier (DC) configuration.
