Mobile operator Zain Saudi Arabia has selected French equipment vendor Alcatel-Lucent (Alca-Lu) to implement its IP/MPLS-based mobile backhaul solution in the Kingdom. The upgrade, which will provide Zain with a converged, scalable, multi-access and all-IP network, has been necessitated by a sharp increase in bandwidth requirements. As part of Alca-Lu’s High Leverage Network architecture, the solution will offer Zain an increased capacity at a lower cost, and prepare the cellco’s network infrastructure for the launch of next generation communication and data services. During the upgrade, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 7750 Service Router (SR) and 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR) along with the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM) and the Alcatel-Lucent 5650 Control Plane Assurance Manager (CPAM). Further, within the framework of the contract, Alca-Lu will provide Zain with comprehensive turnkey network-related services, including consultation, design, software integration and installation services.
Dr. Saad Al Barrak, CEO of Zain Saudi Arabia, commented: ‘Zain KSA looks forward to working with Alcatel-Lucent on this important network evolution project designed not only to improve the customer experience with a reliable and stable network, but also to take our customers to the next level of mobility and beyond. Through our competitive vendor selection process, Alcatel-Lucent demonstrated that they are ready to deliver innovative, cost-effective, state-of-the art technology and deliver financial value to Zain KSA’.
