Zimbabwean state-owned cellco NetOne says that its subscribers will be able to access mobile broadband internet services by the end of this year, as it has obtained funding of USD60 million from China Export-Import Bank, Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe, CBZ Bank and BancABC. NetOne’s managing director, Reward Kangai, said of the upcoming internet service: ‘We are installing equipment all over the country with the funds availed. We are waiting for the test run which is being done on some of our customers,’ adding that the high speed data services would be supported by sister telco TelOne’s fibre-optic connection from Harare to the EASSy international submarine cable system. Kangai also said that NetOne had set aside USD500,000 for the upgrading of call centres nationwide.
