Turkcell Europe, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Turkey’s largest mobile operator by subscribers Turkcell, has attracted 132,000 subscribers since services were launched in the German market in April this year. According to a report by Turkish daily Today’s Zaman, which cites Turkcell’s deputy general manager Lale Saral Develioglu, the company aims to sign up a total of 250,000 subscribers by the end of this year. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Turkcell signed a five-year wireless wholesale contract with German telecoms company and mobile network operator Deutsche Telekom (operating under the Telekom Deutschland brand name), in October 2010. The company launched in April 2011, targeting its services at the roughly 3.5 million Turks living in Germany by offering packages that allow customers to call or receive calls from Turkey at local rates.
