Ministry finalising MNP plan

22 Aug 2011

Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) is finalising guidelines for the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP), local daily Thanh Nien News reports, citing news website VnExpress. The plan for MNP – which would enable the country’s wireless subscribers to retain their number when changing from one network operator to another – has been created based on trends in other countries and will be announced later for public opinion. CommsUpdate previously reported that the MIC began formulating guidelines for MNP towards the end of 2010. ‘MNP will be definitely deployed sooner or later in Vietnam to promote fair competition amongst local mobile operators,’ an MIC official was quoted as saying at the time.
