According to Broadband TV News, Russian cableco ER-Telecom has extended its coverage to the city of Irkutsk, one of the largest cities in Siberia. Operating under the brand name ‘Dom.ru’, the telco will provide subscribers with broadband access at speeds of up to 40Mbps alongside 60 TV channels. ER-Telecom expects to reach 60,000 apartments in Irkutsk by the end of the year. Last month the operator commenced the provision of broadband services in Bryansk, Tomsk and Cheboksary, taking the number of cities that it operates in to 34. Irkutsk, which is believed to be the easternmost city in Russia that ER-Telecom has a presence in, raises that total to 35. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at end-March 2011 ER-Telecom recorded 1.45 million broadband subscribers, equivalent to a 9.2% market share – the fourth largest in Russia.
