Mobilkom Serbia claims to be gaining the most from the new mobile number portability (MNP) regime in the counrty, claiming more transfers than its rivals Telenor Serbia and Mobile Telephony of Serbia (MTS). Mobilkom Serbia, which operates under the VIP banner, announced that after a month of MNP around half of the customers that chose to port their numbers moved to its network. Of the 3,826 subscribers that ported successfully between 1 July 2011 and 1 August 2011, 1,709 moved to VIP. The operator claims that the majority of the new customers are also moving from pre-paid to post-paid plans, potentially generating a higher ARPU for VIP than they did for their previous cellcos. Around 3,500 customers submitted requests to port to VIP: the majority of failed transfers were attributed to outstanding bills or having been with their previous service provider less than three months. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Mobilkom Serbia is the youngest and smallest of Serbia’s cellcos by subscribers, having launched services in 2007, and claiming 1.4 million wireless customers at end March 2011.
