PCCW has posted first half net revenues of USD1.2 billion from its telecoms operations, up 3.7% year-on-year, helping EBITDA rise by 2% to USD459 million. The sales growth was boosted by the 18% rise in international telephony revenue in 1H11, which helped more than offset a 14% decline from local telephony. The company’s mobile unit saw increased sales of 10% as 3G data revenue soared 77%. Retail broadband subscribers grew to 1.401 million from 1.330 million despite intensive price competition, as fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services were widely launched. At the end of July PCCW claimed 72,000 FTTH subscribers, with 40,000 new customers being added during that month alone. On the mobile side, the company’s 3G subscriber base increased by 45% to 880,000, with PCCW adding that 3G data revenue now accounts for 62% of total mobile service revenues.
