DTAC reiterates plans to launch 3G despite opposition

Thai cellco DTAC says it plans to press ahead with the launch of its 3G service in Bangkok this week despite a legal threat from rival CAT Telecom. DTAC is pushing hard to launch next generation services in the wake of similar launches last month from two more Thai telcos – AIS and True Move. However, CAT has told DTAC that it must wait for a green light from the Office of the Attorney-General, which recently warned the cellco that launching 3G services could put the company at risk of legal action. For its part DTAC claims that the proposed launch is not in fact a new commercial service but simply an upgrade of data transmission speeds for its customers.
