Nepal home to 10.7 million wireless subscribers

11 Aug 2011

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority has reported that the number of mobile phone users in the country reached 10.7 million at the end of the fiscal year (15 July). Approximately 3.9 million new subscribers were added during the year, with Ncell attracting 2.7 million of those and partially state-owned Nepal Telecom accounting for the remainder. The regulator noted that declines in tariffs, increased competition between the two operators and changing lifestyles led to the rise in subscribers.
