Softbank tops pile for mobile net additions in July

Softbank Mobile registered the highest net mobile additions amongst Japan’s operators in July – the 16th month in succession it has done so. According to data published by the Telecommunications Carriers Association (TCA) of Japan, Softbank Mobile added a net 245,000 new users last month for a total of 26.383 million. Meanwhile, NTT DoCoMo stayed in second place for the second month in a row thanks to net subscriber additions of 195,500 for a total of 58.610 million. The TCA notes that KDDI took third spot as it increased its overall mobile base by 108,100 to 33.460 million, while fourth-placed eMobile (part of the eAccess group) increased its total by 85,000 to 3.426 million. Further, the country’s personal handy-phone system (PHS) operator Willcom saw its base rise by 46,300 to 4.04 million – the first time the carrier has topped the four million subscriber mark for 15 months.
