Cable TV, broadband access and telephony services provider UPC Ireland has reported strong subscriber growth across all its business operations in Q2 2011, as it took the fight to its rivals, including incumbent Eircom. As at 30 June, UPC reported a total of 827,000 customers, up 11% year-on-year, broken down as close to 225,000 broadband subscribers (up 32%), 121,2000 voice telephony users (56%) and 384,600 digital TV subscriptions (5%). Commenting on the strong performance so far this year, UPC Ireland’s CEO Dana Strong said it confirmed the operator’s EUR400 million-plus (roughly USD570 million) investment in the Republic is paying dividends. As a result of the ongoing upgrades, by September this year some 700,000 households will be within reach of the cableco’s 30Mbps broadband service and 500,000 will be able to access 100Mbps speeds.
