1 Aug 2011

Telekom Deutschland (TD), the domestic fixed and mobile division of German telecoms company Deutsche Telekom, has begun deployment of a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Stade, a city situated in the federal state of Lower Saxony. Tageblatt Online reports that around 9,500 households in several districts of the city will be covered by the network by the end of the year. TD plans to roll out around 72 network switches and around 680km of fibre-optic cables, following total investment of around EUR10.5 million (USD15.1 million). Residents have until 15 October to apply for a free connection to the FTTH network; after this date the fee will amount to ‘several hundreds of euros’.
