J:COM’s H1 income up 23%

Japanese multiservice operator (MSO) Jupiter Telecommunications (J:COM) said profits climbed 23.4% to JPY38.43 billion (USD492.1 million) in the first six months of this year, from JPY31.15 billion in the corresponding period of 2010. The cableco saw revenues rise 3.6% year-on-year from JPY177.5 billion to JPY184.0 billion, and operating income increased to JPY39.96 billion from JPY32.90 billion previously. As at 30 June 2011 J:COM said it had a total of 6.61 million revenue generating units (RGUs), up 8.3% y-o-y, while the total number of subscribing households climbed 5.4% to 3.52 million. The number of broadband internet subscribers went up 7% to 1.76 million from 1.64 million at 30 June 2010, while the number of voice telephony customers grew 12.3% to 2.09 million, and cable TV customers reached 2.77 million, up 6.1% from 2.61 million a year earlier.
