ChinaTel Group ‘outgrows’ name

26 Jul 2011

US-based ChinaTel Group announced yesterday that it has rebranded to VelaTel Global Communications. The name change was prompted by the company’s decision to diversify its portfolio and increase its presence overseas. Outside of China, the wireless broadband provider currently has a toehold in Peru via Perusat and according to VelaTel’s CEO, George Alveraz, is ‘exploring and in some cases actively negotiating transactions for projects in many other countries in Eastern Europe, South America and Asia.’ With the upcoming launches and plans to focus increasingly on a global approach, the former banner was no longer deemed appropriate for the company; its president Colin Tay said that it had ‘outgrown’ the name ChinaTel.
