CAT’s HSPA ‘My’ 3G service launching softly

CAT Telecom is soft-launching W-CDMA/HSPA-based 3G mobile services today (20 July 2011) under the ‘My’ brand via its retail/wholesale partnership with True Move affiliates Real Move and Real Future. According to The Nation newspaper, first to use the Thai state-run telco’s My service are some 1,000 of its employees, while CAT plans to migrate the 400,000 or so customers of its provincial CDMA2000 1x and 3G 1xEV-DO services to the new HSPA network over two years. Meanwhile Real Move is offering 3G services under the ‘TrueMove H’ brand over the new 800MHz-850MHz network, giving users the option of three packages. Following True’s takeover of Thai-Hong Kong joint venture Hutchison CAT Wireless Multimedia (Hutch) in Bangkok and central provinces, Real Move aims to migrate the existing former Hutch 1x/1xEV-DO users to HSPA; these users numbered 730,000 at the end of March 2011, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
